Clancy Denton  0:00
Welcome to the loud quiet. Ooh, empty nester. Okay. What does that mean?

Rick Denton  0:06
I think that actually probably is the theme of the nest. What are we doing? Let's do this. Let's do this thing. Is this Recording. Yeah. Okay,

Clancy Denton  0:15
great. Sans, children just us. we need a tissue box up here to follow along on our journey and maybe you know we can learn from others.

Rick Denton  0:23
I don't have a clue how to be empty nesters.

Clancy Denton  0:25
This is the loud quiet, living the empty nest.

Rick Denton  0:31
Everyone, welcome to another episode of the loud quiet episode 30. Thanks, everybody for hanging with us. As we took a week off. It was nice to take a little break. But we are actually glad to be back and recording another episode to share with each other and to share with you all.

Clancy Denton  0:48
Yeah, so we wanted to start this episode. Before we left for spring break, we got some news of one of our my family friends. And I mean, she was a bridesmaid in my wedding, her son, Caleb, who is a 21 year old student at Texas a&m is missing has been missing now since Monday, last Monday. So we just wanted to acknowledge and here's his picture, just another platform to get his picture get eyes on his picture. If you see him anywhere he was laughing and corpus. If you have any information, if you see him anywhere, please contact the Corpus Christi, Texas Police Department. And again, you know, we're hoping by the time this episode comes out this Thursday that he will have been found some answers will be had. It's just I can't even imagine what his parents and grandparents who are, you know, some of my parents best friends are going through so just wanted to get another platform to get his picture and information out there. So again, Caleb Harris,

Rick Denton  2:20
how old is he again? 21.

Do we have any stats on the pictures that but any stats on his size or any of the tweets on

Clancy Denton  2:28
all on my Facebook page if if you and I can put it on the loud quiet one too, but it is on our on my personal page. All the information is out there. So just again, just wanted to give a platform for for more people to have eyes on this.

Rick Denton  2:50
Don't get out there and share this right now go see Clancys if you're not seeing it, go see it go share it and amazing the power of virality with the internet that could help

Clancy Denton  2:59
us and I do appreciate all of my friends on Facebook after I shared it that have reshard it so yes, I do appreciate that. Just more eyes on it. So yeah, so that's that and we are going to now yeah, there's just really no good segue to I mean, there's not that's that's something that's tragic that's going on. But, you know, we we did have our spring break, which I guess

Rick Denton  3:37
we didn't have to have spring breaks and we bet

Clancy Denton  3:40
this will be the last one that we have a kid in tow so we can go on spring break whenever we want to. So yes, we did a trip with Tegan while Tanner was on his you know, Tinder did more of the spring break. Woohoo. We did. So I just put some pictures we I think we mentioned he was going back to Cabo. And what oh, no, I totally forgot where we got it back up, back it up. Back it up.

Rick Denton  4:08
This is beautiful. Because I promise this was not scripted. This is not intended. Clancy had said we would start with what this picture is. But this is a great point of as one ages, how birthdays become less important.

Clancy Denton  4:21
And yet so we are in birthday season in our household. This was Rick's birthday. We It was Saturday before we left for spring break. So we got to go out to the PGA there was a George Strait cover band. We went with our friends Aaron and JP which was so much

Rick Denton  4:39
fun because we were singing all the songs. And I mean, it was a throwback to kind of an era of music. Well, certainly for me and I think for both of us, an air of country music that we actually enjoyed not being the biggest fans of what's out now. But that was fun to hear that era and

Clancy Denton  4:55
you share your birthday with Texas independence day and so this was just the perfect way Before we were outside you had, you know some shiners and we listened. shiners?

Rick Denton  5:05
No, I had shiner. Oh, really ran out, runs out of here and the girls

Clancy Denton  5:11
were actually there. They just had left. They were being Tegan Kennedy, they were back home to watch their drill team compete at the state competition. And so they came in and ate dinner and then headed back out. So

Rick Denton  5:30
and for those that are looking at the picture, I'm not sitting in Clancy's lap. It looks like I don't just sitting on some ledge in the foreground. But yes, it looks like I'm sitting on Clancy's lap.

Clancy Denton  5:43
And you did get your you know, you shouted out Nintendo a couple of weeks ago asking for them to sponsor but you did get your switch for your birthday.

Rick Denton  5:53
Right. And klancy has lost her husband periodically as he has gone upstairs and advanced even further in the world of Zelda.

Clancy Denton  6:00
So yeah, so we had that. And then, you know, well,

Rick Denton  6:04
you know what, I just noticed something else in that picture. Take a look at Aaron's hair. It is flying. One day still great to sit outside.

Clancy Denton  6:15
That's why I had mine pulled back. So yeah, so that was our pre spring break. And then so yeah, Tanner left that day actually for Cabo. Here. We go into a series on it, though. Yes, Tanner on the boat with the boys. They took a boat out to go out to the rocks. And these are these

Rick Denton  6:34
iconic rocks that are in all the Cabo pictures that you've seen. Yeah. Beautiful water, beautiful weather.

Clancy Denton  6:40
And like I was telling Rick, the last time you went to Cabo, my Facebook feed was flooded with so much. Just story after story of bad things happening, things going on this time. It was so nice. There was not nothing and both Arizona schools were out. So there were a ton of kids in Cabo. So it was nice to just and he was actually, you know, a little more tame this year. This was his pool at the villa they were staying at which is one of his friend's parents, Villa. villas, they own a spectacular, it's awesome. I didn't put the picture of the villa parents. I didn't know that would. But yeah, I mean, beautiful. So for the old people, the seniors, you know, they're seniors in college, they, they did a little more low key, they weren't partying, you know? Well, except they did. They went to see one of their favorite DJs that was there. So, so he did get some, you know, fun little bit of spring. So, he had a great job. Great. Yeah, you know, senior.

Rick Denton  7:47
And it was nice to what you said there of, I think we were at a little more peace. stories can be told about what happened two years ago with with tragedies with one of his fraternity brothers there. And there was some angst with him going there. And so it was nice. That one they were in that setting. And two, I think just as seniors, it was just different. And it was exactly as advertised a trip that was just kind of fun. But chill. And he's back in Arizona safely.

Clancy Denton  8:16
Yes, parents out there who have freshmen and sophomores fear not they do mature as they get into their

Rick Denton  8:24
what is the frontal lobe does actually

Clancy Denton  8:27
develop? We're not quite there yet. But it's 25. For me, it's kind of ways to go. But you know, so. So yeah, so that was good. So, and then we, we had one kid who wanted to do spring break with us, you know, it's hard as a freshman to get plans together, I think because, you know, you just get your

Rick Denton  8:51
and by the time you've met your group, you're kind of orienting around each other unless you're doing a drive, which is what I did my freshman year, like the group of us went to Hilton Head, which was drivable from North Carolina. But unless you're doing that, yeah, it'd be hard to get the group organized by spring,

Clancy Denton  9:06
and they had thrown something around things around and Tegan finally was just like, No, I just No one's planning anything. I don't want to plan it. So I'm just gonna come home and then we go to New York City, so Oh, no, we did we love I mean, we've talked about it, I think we we really enjoy going to New York City. And it's just it's so different now. Like, I mean, I will put it's totally like, I never felt any kind of safety issues, anything. It's just it's really they have really cleaned up a lot of well, certainly from

Rick Denton  9:41
what you and I did not experience right back from the 70s and 80s. With Time Square being what it was and all of that now it's Disney Store and everything else, even even since that time. Now there are people that you know, there's concerns about the subway and that sort of stuff. We felt no

Clancy Denton  9:59
now No subways were actually very empty. I mean, traveling at non Tegan schools for having a early spring break before everyone else got there because yeah, it was, you know,

Rick Denton  10:12
and that is definitely one of the things that we have talked about loving about need before we get into like what we're we're going to be doing here and what this picture is. It's crazy picture. The note is the idea of it is so nice that when you land you don't there's no car. There's no driving. It's all walkable or public transit. It's just so bloomin easy to get around even even things that used to be sort of complex around how do I get a MetroCard? How do I do that? Now you literally just wave your phone at the subway platform, you don't even have to unlock it. You just wave it there walk through everything has gotten so simple. With the advent of phones, I don't know how to get between here and there. Well, you plug it in, and it tells you the exact entrances to get in and out

Clancy Denton  10:58
and wait. So we took one taxi then during our entire stay minus Ubers to and from the airport. But just because it was raining and we didn't want to walk the it

Rick Denton  11:09
was probably like two or three. Well, it was probably like five, six blocks, right? Yes, a normal block. That

Clancy Denton  11:13
was the only time that we took any form of that

Rick Denton  11:17
ground didn't involve the phone. Right? That's truly Yeah, you just wave your hand at the city. And I I'll talk about this is three times ago when we went for the first time back when I was Tanner's college tours. i This was years ago. But I had said New York is a city that kind of intimidates me. It's overwhelming. I don't know where to go, what to do those sorts of things. After that first one. I'm really it is really one of the easiest cities in the

Clancy Denton  11:44
world. Oh, yeah. And I even kind of like going back to that time, or even the times that you and I have been there a long time ago, you know, I still felt a little like always looking over my shoulder always. I just didn't, you still have to be aware you can't be unaware, but I didn't feel that same sort of if someone gonna come up to me and try to mug me, right, you know, I just didn't. I didn't get that kind of a feel. And I didn't have that when Tegan and I went last summer either. So

Rick Denton  12:14
you're right, though you have to keep your eyes open. Right? We did have that one experience in subway, the guy was a little bit off off the rails and the police ended up taking care of him and that sort of thing. You just have to you have to be aware, but you don't have to be afraid.

Clancy Denton  12:27
Yeah. So yeah, so we got to how

Rick Denton  12:31
do we? We get on the 6am flight like, yeah, stuff. Yeah, one was a long, long day. So

Clancy Denton  12:39
it was it was drizzling rain. We want to Tegan always has to go to the Nintendo store, even though she you know, she's like this Nintendo store. Now that I've been to the one in Japan. It's not as quite as good. She did, she found something she had been looking for. We do walked around Rockefeller Center, you know, stopped and had a great sandwich somewhere. And then we were just sitting there already said, Hmm, well, what should we do today? Since it's kind of our Open Day? Yeah. And so we ended up at the National Museum of History. And sciences, I think, I don't even know. We don't even know what it is. It's the big museum with the big dinosaurs and the, you know, its

Rick Denton  13:20
natural history and what the label is, and it was, and this was when we note we acknowledged that Tn is not necessarily a museum person, but she said, yeah, we'll go through that one. We had

Clancy Denton  13:31
a blast there. And she was I mean, we were trying to rush.

Rick Denton  13:37
They closed it pushed us out. So

Clancy Denton  13:39
I knew of all the museums there. This one would be more up her alley. And yeah, I mean, she, we had a great time. And she was actually this is on the screen right now is the picture in the downstairs aquarium room, the whales. I mean, it's not a live aquarium, but they have it set like, and this room is beautiful. This

Rick Denton  14:02
is a huge way. spended above We're on the second floor. The whale is suspended over what is the first floor a basement there? Yeah,

Clancy Denton  14:12
great room. I mean, we, when we went downstairs, we're like, oh, there's a dance floor here. And then we said, oh, you could probably rent this for events. And she said, I think I'd like to have my wedding here. I was like, Okay, let's go out there and sign up for 2030 Something we're gonna do it friends now. She was like, Well, I guess I have to meet the person. So anyway, so yeah, this was so much fun and and then I put another picture in of her. This is one of the big dinosaur displays that comes kind of out of the room. It's just an interesting fun picture. And what I found so funny is you know, first of all, Tegan was pretty much guiding us around the museum. She had the map she was let's go here. I want to go here. The The gym room was awesome. We spent a lot of time in that room. But I loved she would start spouting off stuff about and Rick and I are like, how do you? How do you know? How do you know this? And she's like, from my class that I'm in this semester, and the one I was in last semester, I'm like, Oh my gosh, that education is paying what I'm paying for it. It's actually working.

Rick Denton  15:25
No one could have a discussion around whether it's valuable knowledge going forward. But she did several times. She's like, this is that what I did

Clancy Denton  15:35
love that was at the sociology major. Didn't she was like, I don't want to see the people room.

Rick Denton  15:41
Show the dinosaurs show the animals. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  15:43
So yeah, so that was so much fun. And,

Rick Denton  15:45
and we really were That's not a joke. We were being chased out of.

Clancy Denton  15:50
I mean, it was

Rick Denton  15:52
time to go. The doors are closing behind us, as we're leaving, found a

Clancy Denton  15:56
great little place to eat close down there. And earlier in the day, we said, well, we could go to a show tonight. We have time. We already had two other shows booked. But we're like, oh, let's look just look and see what's available. So we came across this friend's parody musical. And Rick and I when we are talking about are like, and I don't know, she's gonna want and she said, Oh, no, I'll do I'll go. I mean, this was off Broadway. And yeah, but you know, still great. It was fun. Maybe 30 People watching the show. 3040 people i 40. Yeah, yeah, it was not handled. And it was not yes, the theater was not sold out by any means. But it was also a Tuesday night. It

Rick Denton  16:43
just was nice to experience New York theater. That's such an intimate level. Yeah. And I've talked about on this show, when we went and saw that play in Dallas. Excuse me, the closest that I think I've seen to that in New York, where it really is intimate. You're right there with the performers. And

Clancy Denton  16:57
it was it for a few love friends. Yeah. It was great. Because it was all and at some points, Rick and I were the only ones laughing because when I looked in the crowd, I said, Okay, there's a lot of non. We heard a lot of German. Yeah. German and, and I know, yes, they watched friends too, but because all the actors are speaking in English. It was it was very quick. I mean, we were getting some of the humor

Rick Denton  17:27
that time there was I forget the joke. But they said, we laughed, and we were the only two that laughed. And the line in the show was well, I guess only two people are gonna get Yeah,

Clancy Denton  17:36
because it was from an episode that wasn't those two. Because we know friends back and forth. But that was that was really a lot of fun. And yeah. And Tegan loved it. We laughed. It was it was really good. So that was fun that made

Rick Denton  17:51
for them. This is everything we just said is one day and you glossed over finding the restaurant that I mean, it was there, but the Upper West Side and all that that just it was a full day. And that's what's great about New York, we had planned how much of that day? Nothing. Yeah, we landed. Well, actually, I guess the only thing we planned was get to Oh, yeah. And you can fill an entire day with an itinerary like that without having anything scripted. Yeah, it was a blast. Right.

Clancy Denton  18:15
So the next day was Tegan and Clancy de because Rick went into the office so we did what we like to do and went and walked the highline if you haven't done that, it's it's really nice. Just walk in now. I've done it now in summer and we did it now in doing explained what the highlight winter. Yeah, it's just an elevated walkway. Why? Yes. Because we saw there's still remnants of the rail line up there. It's got some art installations on it in the summer when we were there with Aaron and Kennedy. I mean, all the trees were planted the flowers. So this time it was interesting, because there was a certain thing that I wanted to see that I didn't see the last time it's called the vessel. It's in Hudson Yards and it's a huge I don't know what Yeah, interesting. Yeah. ramp and I didn't put the picture of it on here but Tegan and I were walking I was like, Oh my gosh, it's right there well, and I said oh yeah, we couldn't see it because the trees were in full bloom before so we just we like enjoy walking this because it connects down to Chelsea Market. And so we went down to Chelsea Market and ate at a bakery down there. It God blessed us with the weather because the morning it was cold but not raining but then when we came back to go to our next stop it was raining but so we Tegan and I check in another play. The play the went wrong or the play that goes wrong. If you have not seen this go see it It was hilarious. I mean, our cheeks were hurting so bad from laughing. Yeah, it was incredible. Like, I would go see this one. Again and again, even though I know what's coming, but it was just even really, really good driving

Rick Denton  20:18
this plate. That night. I was laughing as y'all were narrating this play. And this would technically be another off Broadway or kind of mid Broadway, I don't know how it became was

Clancy Denton  20:28
it was still in Broadway, the area and the and you could tell the difference between these actors and the actors that were in the friends parody. So no, these were trained, you know, obvious there was a different level of talent you were experiencing. But I mean, so good. We really, really, really enjoyed.

Rick Denton  20:50
And the premise of the play, as you described it, to me was a college. It's supposed

Clancy Denton  20:54
to be a college putting on this. Yes, play about a murder that happens of this, you know, and I mean, just everything props aren't in the right places, people forget their lines. And one actor is acting like he's, you know, never been out on stage before he like waves when he comes out at any time the crowd reacts to him. He like turns and like does like I mean, it's it was just, it was really, really good. So if you are in New York, which I know some people are actually headed there in a couple of weeks, for other spring breaks. And you get a chance I would put this one on the list for sure. So

Rick Denton  21:37
the when you describe this play when I think about it, I wonder if to say something's harder or easier in acting, it's probably not fair. It's probably all an art. But I wonder if there's a different kind of level of challenge in trying to act like it's messed up. Yeah,

Clancy Denton  21:53
I think an

Rick Denton  21:54
act naturally as if you would have had it messed up, but it wasn't messed up. It was scripted, yet, you need to pretend it's that your brains would sort of

Clancy Denton  22:03
break a bit. And it was very physical. That's how a lot of physical things were falling thing. You know, they're having to hold things up on the wall. I mean, it was it was a very physically taxing play as well as the time. Yeah, cuz. Yeah, it was just it was really, really good. We really enjoyed that. So and then she had seen this on Instagram.

Rick Denton  22:31
So it's gonna sit this one out.

Clancy Denton  22:34
Our hotel was directly across from the Hershey store. And so when we were at dinner the first night or went on Tegan said, Oh, I, there's something on Instagram that I've seen. And I kind of want to do it. And I think it's across from our hotel. And yes, so this is build your own Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. So if you are watching, that is a ginormous Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in a box. I mean, it literally probably weighed five pounds. It's as big as he gets head easily like, and

Rick Denton  23:07
I'm thinking I'm trying to think Is it like a 12 inch, maybe? Probably 12 inch diameter,

Clancy Denton  23:11
maybe 15 inch. It's not that big.

Rick Denton  23:13
I think it's at least a foot wide.

Clancy Denton  23:15
That's now that box was in that I think it's probably eight. I'd say eight inches. Well, they pack a lot and oh well. Yes. So if you're familiar, you know if you know Amy's if you know Coldstone where do they like mix in all your stuff? Well imagine instead of ice cream, it's literally peanut butter. And then you get four mix ends and two drizzles. And so they she's up there mixing it all together the lady and puts it all into a form chocolate of the bottom of the Reese's, then takes this huge circular, probably half an inch thick, and puts that on top. And yeah, it was the richest. I mean, I took two bites. I'm like, I'm out. I can't. Tegan took it. I mean, we brought it even home and still throw away. Half of it at least. You need about six people.

Rick Denton  24:18
For youth groups or band trips, or and

Clancy Denton  24:21
I heard several people even when we were like coming down in our elevator at one point, I heard some other lady that was like, Ooh, that build your own racist thing. I think because right there. I was like, oh, yeah, it is. And if it was good, and for those of you who really know, Tegan, I mean, that is her Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are her favorite candy. So this was this was fun for her to get to do and say yeah, so that was

Rick Denton  24:51
and you mentioned the hotel. I will say this. That is one thing. I'll shout him out. Although I don't want him to because I don't want y'all to know about and start filming. So tell Little bit tempo by Hilton at Times Square ridiculous location. Yes. New York sized rooms but still comfortable. Very clean. Very nice, great staff there. Excellent location it is if you know where the tickets booth is or the red stairs, it's across the street, not down across the

Clancy Denton  25:18
street. No great location. So yeah, so

Rick Denton  25:23
that's when I met y'all after work. And I got soaked. It was just a 10 minute walk. Yeah, I mean, just drenched, coming back. So dried off a little bit. And then we went, went out, finding our way to an Italian restaurant, which was we could do an entire episode about New York dining. Oh, yeah. This place. It was good. It was really good. And yet, it probably wasn't like the creme de la creme or that sort of thing. It wasn't all that crowded. Now granted Wednesday night, that sort of thing. It was raining and raining and all that. And yet good. Again, not planned. It just you can fall just straight into such great food that you have to make sure it gets a little bit away from Time Square, you can't just eat the stuff that's around there.

Clancy Denton  26:06
We don't want to eat a lot of that stuff. Well, yeah,

Rick Denton  26:09
there's really no reason to go to New York and Applebee's is,

Clancy Denton  26:11
I mean, chicken, and I found a great ramen place that that's what I liked. And that's, that's what I learned. The last time I went is that you don't need to pre plan unless there's a specific restaurant that you want to go to. You don't need to pre plan anything. Because sometimes, like on this day, you don't feel like oh, we then have dinner.

Rick Denton  26:35
Yeah, no way. Especially because we needed to save some belly space for what is on the screen now.

Clancy Denton  26:42
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

Rick Denton  26:44
So yeah, this was a lot of fun. This is something you booked, this is a well, you booked? We there were a couple things that were pre booked. This is one of them. And this is a food tour of the East Village. Right. This one was,

Clancy Denton  26:57
this was great in Lower East Side labs. And

Rick Denton  27:01
the fact that you did a food tour of the same company twice tells you how good so

Clancy Denton  27:07
let me as you shout it out the hotel Nice Guy tours that Tegan and I and Kennedy did one with the owner last time, which was the Lower East Side. Excellent, because it's not just okay, here's foods, it's talking about the neighborhood giving you historical facts, interesting tidbits that you may not know it's really it's really fun. And it's it's a good three hour tour easy. So so this time we did the Greenwich Village one again, excellent stops that we got to this was just on the street that's got the Empire State Building in the background. You can't really tell it all that much, but on the picture. But yeah, it was great. There were only five of us on the tour.

Rick Denton  27:55
Again, thank you Teagan for having the spring wasn't crowded. And that was what I mean look worse. This is actually on a street that this picture is now granted that street had been blocked off because it was a gas line that needed to be repaired or whatever. But these kinds of quieter moments did exist. And as you said, like the the food tour was a part of it. He also took us to Washington Square, which we'd been to before. Tegan and I sat there and watched this amazing chess

Clancy Denton  28:21
match taking place. I don't think we even noticed that just the times I've been there. I don't think that I've even really paid attention. Certainly don't stop and watch them. I knew they were there and to know that they are there to really they are professional. I mean, are there hustlers? Yeah, yes, they watching

Rick Denton  28:39
this guy just talk trash to the because what they want is somebody to sit down who? Oh, yeah, I played chess.

Clancy Denton  28:47
Oh, are you okay? Tanner would be a prime candidate. Target.

Rick Denton  28:51
And he would be so abused. Yeah, that one guy. The one who's the hustler. The other guy kind of made a move, but he has no need to panic. It's just man, just kind of taunting him. Oh,

Clancy Denton  29:06
as he takes a long draw on his weed while he's just playing. I mean, it was like we were in a movie. That's what I felt.

Rick Denton  29:13
Yeah, it's like if Bobby Fischer and dazed and confused combined is what this dude

Clancy Denton  29:19
it was. It was really fun. But we you know, we had already stopped at one pizza place the falafel place and this was the street that had the pizza place a falafel plates and the palm freetds which is free just french fries, but oh my gosh, and you got a whole plate of all the different sauces. Tegan was like, any place that has sauces I love. So yeah, so good. And then we did another pizza place in Italian place. The Cupcake plot I mean it was Yeah. And so you are getting good size portions. You don't think you're like oh that slice is small but no yeah we weren't you know we were so full yeah at the end of that but it

Rick Denton  30:05
this was one that does we had already seen it but you got to see the friends corner and go to there we saw the was at the skinny the skinny skinny US House in New York and when I say that you could actually go one arm and the other arm and you would be able to touch both sides of the wall. It was that house but it is the skinniest house

Clancy Denton  30:25
What did he say? It just sold for it just sold like last summer for two point something million.

Rick Denton  30:32
Yeah. And it's one of those I had that reaction of Well, that's a lot but less than I would have thought

Clancy Denton  30:36
just because of a small because what the one next door is sold for like, sure tomorrow. Yeah. We saw Anderson Cooper's. I didn't realize he had converted an old fire station into a house. So that was, yeah, that was neat.

Rick Denton  30:48
I'm not one. I don't really get star Gaga. I thought that was cool, though, because it was an old fire station that and I guess the poll is still in there or something. I hope he's not going down.

Clancy Denton  31:00
Yeah, we saw Cherry Lane, which is where they do a lot of fill. Like that's a lot of scenes that you see when you're looking for a typical neighborhood in New York. Nice. And

Rick Denton  31:10
that's the neighborhood part is important here. Because there were a lot of times it was quiet. Like I want. We even talked in these kinds of tones. And you never talk in a tone like this in New York, because it's so loud in New York. It was a really nice, very,

Clancy Denton  31:25
very good. So again, if you hit that one Oh, yeah. Nice Guy tours. Very good. So then Tegan got to introduce Rick, because I've already been with her to her favorite musical six. And this was the musical that she went two years ago. By herself, right? We bought her a single ticket at the we were tickets and the tickets were like,

Rick Denton  31:48
Well, do you want to see one? One? Let's go see. Let's go see what it is. And you and I did not we just we were not in the mood to go see theater. And she was just on that edge of is it okay to send her to the theater by herself? Wow, what a wise choice. We know what night that was. It was the night we joke that she broke Broadway, because that was the last night that Broadway performed before it shut down for COVID. And she got to see the last show down Broadway. But yeah, so now with this third time for her for six. It's my first time.

Clancy Denton  32:17
It's an amazing show.

Rick Denton  32:19
It was so much fun.

Clancy Denton  32:20
I mean, it is high energy. It's more like a concert with dialogue in between. It's based on the wives of Henry the Eighth and how they each died. And it's just, it's clever. It's unique. And they are so talented. All now I've seen two different casts. And Tegan hasn't seen three and they're all just

Rick Denton  32:47
the vote on it on what's the color? I guess White was her? That's is that? Yes. Either way. Her vocal range was spectacular. The comedic talent of others, the wit, the the dancing skills, the Korean and I will be the first to say that this is not a ticket that I would ever buy naturally. This is not the type of musical that appeals to me. Not that I'm against it. It's just like, I'd rather go see a play or something like that, which is what I did last time. If I'm saying I had a good time at it, if I'm saying I had fun at it, then I think it's it's a has a appeal to a wide audience. This was a lot of fun. And

Clancy Denton  33:28
another two if you have any sort of if you can't sit for long periods of time at a musical this one does not have an intermission. And it is an hour and 20 minutes long. So if you need a shorter something, this is a new year just they engage the audience. It's just it's really just a lot of fun in a

Rick Denton  33:51
non annoying way. That's a sentence though, that if I heard that without context, I'm the first one that is like I don't know, I'm in the audience. I paid to be entertained not to be a performer. They they have the just the right level of breaking the fourth wall that makes it fun. It is not one of those where they're pulling people on stage. Like that. It is it was a delight. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  34:14
And I mean it is it's the six girls, and then the there's four girls in the makeup the band. And so yes, all female cast. And

Rick Denton  34:24
that's obviously a key theme. There's a female empowerment. That's and we didn't realize that we went and saw that the day before. International Women's Day. Yes.

Clancy Denton  34:33
And it really does. It has a good message like you know, it's just, it is her favorite. It's become one of my favorites. The music is just really good too. So yeah, that was fun. We had some late night. Wasn't that late night but we just went and got Yeah,

Rick Denton  34:52
but that's nice. You're done with the show. You can start dinner at 830 So you're not It's not this midnight. We ate some

Clancy Denton  34:59
some at all

Rick Denton  35:00
I had, I think I had a meal to get an appetizer and I hadn't had a dessert. So basically, we had the Chili's

Clancy Denton  35:06
ticket, and I shared ourselves shared her salad and my cheesecake. Yeah, it was good. So that was a good way to end our last night there. And then the next day was beautiful. Sunny came out. Yeah. And perfect day for us. Tegan and I already had the Friday planned out. Because this is what we did the last time. So on the day that we left so we went down to Central Park walk around Central Park. Oh, had our bagel. We had to have our bagel first. Because remember the name of that place? Because Oh, my gosh,

Rick Denton  35:39
broad broad brush. It's, it's right there close apart. I think it's 50th An eighth or something. Yeah, it's right in that area. So great place to grab a bagel snack on and head out to the park. And crowded be prepared.

Clancy Denton  35:54
But the line moves. I mean, they get you through New York, they get you through. And you and they weren't. What I liked about that place is there were a lot of tourists there. There were also some regulars coming in. But they didn't make you feel like come on, hurry up. What do you do with that? If they answered questions, if you had questions, I

Rick Denton  36:17
just a little side here. I didn't experience that once. Now this trip. And I don't know if it's just been good luck. Or if the vibe of New York has changed now. Yeah, if you're sitting there walking slow on the sidewalk, somebody's gonna bump your shoulders, they're trying to get through you. The the rudeness of New York has been tapered, at least in my experience, especially in these food establishments. And I don't know if COVID had an impact on that, that there's an element of Thank God, we survived and we're still here. We're thankful that you're there. That that fear that intimidation that oh, my gosh, I'm gonna be this outside tourist kind of person. Yeah. I mean, you do need to have your act somewhat together. But to your point, there was none of that. Come on. More on get through here. There was no soup Nazi. We didn't feel any of that.

Clancy Denton  37:02
So that's another good place. And so yes, here we are at Central Park. Beautiful. Just fun to walk around. We made it to the John Lennon Memorial.

Rick Denton  37:14
It's right there outside of the Dakota, which is where he was assassinated. Had no idea that was there. How many times we've been there. And it's so nice to see that. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  37:27
There was a guy there singing his music, which he was actually really good. So yeah, so that was just yeah, we just wandered around the park and great way to our last day

Rick Denton  37:37
on the park. We did we weren't at all

Clancy Denton  37:42
fired. And that's again, one thing I do enjoy about the vacation to New York is that you're constantly moving. You can choose to go sit somewhere, and yes, we did that too. But you know, you're walking six, seven miles every day, you know, maybe even more so. It does it. That's why, you know, most people that live in the city and work in the city are then because they're active. That's how they have to get to work. They walk instead of get in their car and drive. So but yeah, this was great. And then of course, we ended it with our, the empanada empanada mama, which is I didn't put the picture up here. But yeah. So I think Aaron actually found that place last time and Tegan kept saying we have to go to the empanada place you found and so she had seen it on Yelp or something. So this time we took Rick and yeah

Rick Denton  38:36
so empanadas a fried dough pastry that's got filling in it but not sweet it well. Typically, they're kind of savory in Brazil, Colombia. It's a very Latin American sort of thing. I'm sure I'd had one before but I don't recall it. This had 1520 different types of ingredients that you could get and everything from mac and cheese so that's obviously a non traditional one to one that I had that was kind of Caribbean in inspired with corn and shredded pork and then one called the LFA that had that very roomy in it and and we

Clancy Denton  39:14
had a spinach and queso one and a cheddar barbecue. Pulled Pork BBQ inside.

Rick Denton  39:20
This was a different style it was a corn meal style so not cornbread in the sense of very squishy but a fried crispy.

Clancy Denton  39:28
It was like having your pulled pork with your corn bread. I mean it was yeah, we again take a hodgepodge good

Rick Denton  39:34
stuff it with your pork and you might get there just without the sweetness of the hushpuppy well

Clancy Denton  39:39
and I loved what you said you said you know where can you eat in New York, three people for lunch with drinks, non alcoholic drinks, but they were the same price pretty much for 40 bucks.

Rick Denton  39:52
We're gonna eat for that for three people in Frisco.

Clancy Denton  39:57
Again. That's again what we He commented on I comment on the last time I went and now you comment on at this time, the prices are not insane. If you

Rick Denton  40:08
go where the prices aren't insane, I think that's the scope. And I will say this for those that do enjoy a happy hour, New York aspect. I mean, I cannot find a $6 cocktail in Frisco, and a $6 cocktail in Frisco in New York is very common and happy hour and a happy hour. It doesn't stop at 536. No, it'll go till seven, eight o'clock. They're $5 beers like this is like, how is Manhattan going to be a cheaper food and drink experience in Frisco? And yes, I'm describing happy I'm describing casual places, you go to blue suit, and you're going to spend three $400. But

Clancy Denton  40:44
I would say the Italian place we went here wasn't casual. And it was no different prices than some of the entire places here. So I

Rick Denton  40:51
don't have to you can have a phenomenal food, 90 of food and dining, drink and dine in New York without breaking.

Clancy Denton  41:00
And I will say some of the upper tier category, places that we have been before. Were more disappointing than I think,

Rick Denton  41:11
specifically that we went to before the theater in that balloon family of restaurants that was sort of Wait, why am I paying for the socks? I want to pay in money, but it can't. So I also like not paying.

Clancy Denton  41:30
That was this trip. And again, we talked about how it's just so nice that you can just, you know, Tegan and I wanted ramen, okay do to do found a great ramen place. Watch right to it. You know, it's just, that's the part that I really, really just enjoy about visiting there. I don't know that I would want to live there. I could, like you said when we talked about, I could do like three months, maybe six. I don't think I'd want to live there all the time. But I do enjoy. I really enjoyed this week.

Rick Denton  42:05
There's a lot of the lifestyle. They're that as enjoyable as a as a traveler. Whereas I feel very comfortable that I could live in some of the places that we've talked about in Tuscany, or Arizona or some of those New York's not a place that I want to live. But man, I love visiting there. You just love the simplicity of the logistics. I just

Clancy Denton  42:25
say yeah, that was really, it was a great trip. And then we came home and Tegan left yesterday. And, you know, I was I like I mentioned to you. And you've mentioned to me, too. But this time, it was kind of role reversal. I said, I'm sad to see her go. And I know I'm going to see her in literally three weeks for Easter. But because she and I were together so much on this trip, and we had one full day where it was just us. I just we just really enjoy being together. She and I have a really good time with YouTube. But when it's just us together by ourselves,

Rick Denton  43:03
there were a couple times that I was very cognizant that there is a mother daughter relationship just

Clancy Denton  43:08
have a really good time together. So I really I kind of felt yesterday, the pain of oh, she's leaving already, you know, but like I said, we'll see her.

Rick Denton  43:17
You know, this morning. Like you said it was the flip because I've had that where I'm sad when they're gone this time. I'm not sad. And I think it's, it's weird. It's reversed because we had so much fun and it was full. I don't feel that there was anything lacking. I didn't want any like, great. Go back. And we've talked about she's going back to a much more positive situation. So thank god, she's like, she was happy to go back. I didn't notice that this morning, though. When I was doing my morning things I was I had this mental image of her still upstairs. Like I even found myself maybe being a little quieter and then realizing oh, wait, no, she's not here.

Clancy Denton  43:55
Yeah, I think you know, she went back. early afternoon yesterday, so I think it just kind of it was just so fast. We got home Friday night, I did her laundry she got packed and then you know we were back to just regular routine today. You know, going to church and

Rick Denton  44:13
Rick recording an episode. Yes. Yeah. Well, for those that have, this is going to end up being a longer episode for sure. For those that have listened to it. If you need any New York tips or anything like that. Let us know if you've gone in any spring break trips as an empty nester or back with your kids again, let us know who always always liked to hear your stories. But it was fun. It was fun to relive this New York trip only a few days after being back.

Clancy Denton  44:42
All right. And another episode of the loud quiet living the empty nest
