We’ve been at this empty nester thing for one semester (using our college kids’ calendar). Clancy takes us through an article of the Top 30 Best Empty Nester Date ideas she found with some good and not so good ideas for empty nester dates.

🤣Laugh with us as we discuss all and discard some.

Text is from Teagan

Clancy Denton  0:00
Welcome to the loud quiet. Ooh, empty nester. Okay. What does that mean?

Rick Denton  0:06
I think that actually probably is the theme of the nest. What are we doing? Let's do this. Let's do this thing. is this Recording? Yeah. Okay,

Clancy Denton  0:15
great. Sans, children just us. we need a tissue box up here to follow along on our journey and maybe you know, we can learn from others.

Rick Denton  0:23
I don't have a clue how to be empty nesters.

Clancy Denton  0:25
This is the loud quiet, living the empty nest.

Rick Denton  0:31
All right, hello, and welcome to episode 17 of the loud quiet. Hey, want to start off by just it's the end of the year. And Spotify does a thing where it shows you sort of a recap of the year. And I want to specifically say thank you to those of you that our listeners thank you to those of you who are viewers. There's a category of y'all that this is your number one podcast that you listen to. And that really warms our heart. We did this primarily to have an activity for Clancy and me to do together. You the listeners, you the viewers, though it really that's an additional warming of our hearts to know that you really liked this. You really liked this, and you want to be a part of the loud quiet. And we really appreciate that

Clancy Denton  1:14
is that Spotify wrapped a new thing this year?

Rick Denton  1:16
It's not but it has become

Clancy Denton  1:19
visible. Everyone I've seen. Yes. Oh, look what my Spotify wrapped was? Yeah, there's two elements. Number

Rick Denton  1:25
one is if you're a podcaster, it gives you stats about your show. If you are a listener of Spotify, then that that has been more well known Hey, this is my notes. Yeah, listening all that the podcast or one, you know, gave me it for six passport, it gave me it for this podcast as well. And it's just neat to see out there. And so for those of you that haven't had the opportunity to leave a review, either at Spotify or to Apple or in your favorite places, please, we would love to see your comments there. Love to see your review there. And then if you're a viewer on YouTube, certainly subscribe, follow and leave a comment there. It always, always warms our heart to see see what you've got out there. And we've learned from several of you as we've gone through that. So we have talked a lot about kids over the last episodes, what happens over the holidays, what happens when you travel. The reality is though this empty nest thing is well it's an empty nest. And so today's episode is kind of fun. Clancy has found something that we're going to walk through almost real time today. And it's about what can you do when you're an empty nester?

Clancy Denton  2:30
Well, yeah, I don't even I was just looking for topics because we need topics. So content when your weekly Yeah. So I was just Googling some DNS and this article popped up. Which I guess it's it's from the dating divas.com. So they must do I didn't go any further into their pages. I just pulled up this article, but I'm assuming they must have all different categories of dating and maybe dating advice. I don't know. This was just an article written by someone who contributed to their page. So So yeah, it was 30 fun and flirty, date ideas for empty nesters on how much how much flirting needs to go on when you're flirting needs to me so yeah, so I scrolled through it. And most of them I will say we have done or planning to do a lot of them. I was like, Okay, so we'll just go through them and see what our reaction is given

Rick Denton  3:40
me kind of the quickest of overviews, but we have not spent a ton of time talking about this. So this is gonna be a little mealtime conversation. And

Clancy Denton  3:47
the pictures are really good as well. Because at first I was like, okay, there are empty nesters who aren't at so let's put some people in there but anyways, so yeah, there's a whole this is the whole intro. So let me get down to one. All right. Number one is go hiking. Okay, now here. Here's the young couple. Oh, wait, oh,

Rick Denton  4:13
I don't know that almost looks like dad and daughter now that I'm looking at.

Clancy Denton  4:19
It's not but you know, they're looking at the trail map. I'm guessing you know, getting ready to go on their hike. So. So this one I will say check. We've done. You've done pictures on the podcast. We have done it multiple times. And actually the last time we did Tegan actually joined us which I was kind of surprised that she wanted to go with us.

Rick Denton  4:44
It did break the emptiness vibe, but we done it. Yeah, it's great to have her

Clancy Denton  4:48
but I did have to tell her because I said your dad's not going to Utah us because we were in Utah on vacation. We were on a hike and it was oh look, this is the show Okay know what added Okay,

Rick Denton  5:02
so we're gonna start from the 30. And below just like it said on the side best routed

Clancy Denton  5:08
back and it was not it was the worst route.

Rick Denton  5:11
So my own folly for falling signs.

Clancy Denton  5:15
So but what was hilarious is to get to exactly what I said, he's not going to Utah, us on this hike she was like, okay then

Rick Denton  5:25
you tell this is a great example though a good date to do as a empty nester if you're physically capable of doing if you can spend time together silently we can talk together and we can laugh about the memory now. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  5:36
And we do and we have some of our good talks on hikes. Now, some of them you know, I've gotten to the point now where I'm like, there's only a certain kind of hike that I will do, but I have my parameters but yeah, so we, you know, okay, so we get a chance to offer Yes. All right. Okay, move on. Alright. Well,

Rick Denton  5:56
I didn't mean it like that. All right. We do have 29 to get through. Okay,

Clancy Denton  6:00
number two have a picnic in the park. And again, you know, here's the couple the pictures are just hilarious. So we have not done this. I don't really know what park we would go to because most of the parks around here infiltrated with Brazilian children. Yeah, it's a sport. Yeah, communities. Oh,

Rick Denton  6:23
I get it. This is not one that ZZ but I get it you're spinning I mean, it's just not as act we did

Clancy Denton  6:28
it in our Well, not everything has to be active but we did it in our earlier days. But my whole thing is you don't want to pack

Rick Denton  6:39
here's what our picnic would be. Alright, we're either going to stop by Market Street or season we're going to grab something and just

Clancy Denton  6:46
like you know, I liked what we did with Aaron and JP we went and played frisbee golf at the park and then we went to the brass tap right across the street. And so there have a frisbee golf in the park. Or find a place that's yeah, got, you know, so. All right, up next. Go dancing. Oh, whoops. I'm gonna do Oh, oh, man.

Rick Denton  7:09
Well go dancing. We talked about it while you're clicking that.

Clancy Denton  7:11
Yes. Go dancing. So I like

Rick Denton  7:15
this one. When you read this to me, I was like, Yes, we should do that.

Clancy Denton  7:18
Yeah, and one of our friends they are taking dance lessons. You know, I couldn't just say oh, yeah, let's go club and date or a country in western place. Or you know, any. I mean, I haven't. Yeah, I couldn't tell you the last time that I mean, I did the mom dancing at the at the you know, CASA is like you know

Rick Denton  7:50
this is funny that this one comes up because I actually and you could go see I've actually tried to search where could we go to steppin but not like the glitzy neon new country to study but like the old stuff that you did at Baylor the stuff that I did in high school at the SP jst Hall in Round Rock? I don't know if it exists but I think that would be a lot of fun saw dust on the floor?

Clancy Denton  8:13
Probably maybe up in Denton or some that's what I'm wondering about that. But I would still Yeah, I know. But I would feel so uncomfortable just going into a place like that right now. Lessons. Yeah. So and you know, we did I would like to do a lesson but like our friends who are doing it actually in Word, they have a private instructor. They have private lessons. I don't necessarily want to do it that way. I think it'd be more fun with a group Yeah, that would be and but that's something that they have found that they enjoy and they're doing it as an empty nester activity. So

Rick Denton  8:45
all right, well, we'll find it we'll find if anybody knows where the SP jst equivalent is in North Texas, let us know.

Clancy Denton  8:51
So here's the enjoy a bike ride around your neighborhood or local park.

Rick Denton  8:56
Are they the same? I know I was like, Good lord. Yeah, they just crashed into each other.

Clancy Denton  9:02
First of all, I don't want you that near me after bike ride, or, I mean, that really does look like you're crashing. And when I read this one, I was like, Well, I don't even think I own a bike anymore. I think I got rid of my bike. But when we were younger, we did ride bikes all the time, because where we lived, you know, out here we've done the trail over by little elm park, but Vikings never been a huge now when you were younger, it was a huge part of your life, but Well, it certainly is, you know, I would we've rented bikes when we've been on vacation and that kind of stuff. And

Rick Denton  9:39
we've done like the bike tours, Florence and those those are a blast this one I'm not going to add it to our date list and certainly not you know, have a collision with each other on a ride.

Clancy Denton  9:49
Go to a local museum. Oh my gosh, the best part is the pictures I told you now. Oh my gosh. If

Rick Denton  9:58
you're on Spotify, just Go over YouTube, you've got to start watching.

Clancy Denton  10:03
Whoever picked the artwork, yeah. So, okay, maybe they're looking at the creepy picture that we saw. And

Rick Denton  10:12
we laughed, and we did it. So well. They're

Clancy Denton  10:16
enjoying their time with museums. So, but yes, we have we've we've actually done this was one of the first things we did when we went over to Fort Worth, and went to the Campbell Museum, which we talked and that was, yeah, we talked about it on one of our first episodes. So I

Rick Denton  10:31
do know with you, well, actually with me, too, there's a limit. There's a peace and an enjoyment kind of looking at that kind of stuff. But we don't we're not the deep Art History type people that's probably now go to the local museum to the level of date that you and your spouse want to do. Yeah, yeah. And try not to look like those two. And

Clancy Denton  10:49
then here's the art gallery or local art show, which kind of falls into the same, it wasn't a gallery, but the museum that we did, and, and we do we enjoy, like when, you know, we'll walk into galleries and things when they're,

Rick Denton  11:04
like when you're in Santa Fe, so maybe wondering, I think that would actually be interesting to see a local art show to actually go to some new artists that has released something we see it on TV, like often as a TV sort of programming thing. I've never been to an actual gallery release an artists release. I would even if I didn't care for the art I think it'd be fun just to see the spectacle and that's something that you and I kind of could even have and

Clancy Denton  11:31
I'm guessing there is that kind of you know, it's probably just not out here. Suburbs, it's down in you know, now McKinney might have because they have a little more vibe of artsy and maybe up in Denton. But you probably have to go down to Dallas and I could be in that scene to get those kind of invites. So

Rick Denton  11:54
there's what's good about this list of things that we you and I have never talked about going to a gallery opening kind

Clancy Denton  12:00
of interesting and you know, again, they're discussing why

Rick Denton  12:04
did our her son take this? The Ages are weird and these models keep going. I'm disturbed.

Clancy Denton  12:13
Okay, this one I loved how they put see a new movie in a theater which for a while none of us were going to talk

was kind of funny, you know? Yes. Now that you don't need to worry about being home on time to relieve the babysitter. Okay. I haven't needed if you're an empty nester you ever needed a babysitter and like even when your kids were in high school

Rick Denton  12:49
there are some high schoolers who probably would have benefited babysitter but

Clancy Denton  12:52
you know we do we enjoy going to the theater now. Again I have caveats because some of these movies now are almost three hours I can't do that that's when I like to be in my house when I can posit go get a drink go to the restroom because otherwise you're you know missing part of the movie. And and I also have you know now that most of them have their recliners it has to be the recliner so but yeah, I do i do i we like to go to the movies we just you know, sometimes like there's doldrums where there's just nothing out we

Rick Denton  13:28
did talk about that we're missing so I think this is one that we need to plug more actively into because what are we talking about the other day they're like five movies that somebody commented on and we didn't even know they were out well

Clancy Denton  13:38
because I found out later that they were being released they were only it was not that situation anyway even

Rick Denton  13:46
finding that out and and movies

Clancy Denton  13:49
that we want to see sometimes like when that came out and then it was gone because it got cruel you know, engulfed in all of the other major releases but it's back now so I

Rick Denton  14:01
don't think there are there are ways to know when to go pee I was able to watch off and I are sad

Clancy Denton  14:05
app that you can find but I still Yeah, I want to be in the comfort of my home. If it's over two hours.

Rick Denton  14:12
Napoleon's not going to be on.

Clancy Denton  14:14
Okay about that one. Oh, okay. Oh, yes. Or enjoy.

Rick Denton  14:19
Theater. We're

Clancy Denton  14:19
talking well, but this is their romantic movie night face. I'm like, What are you watching?

Rick Denton  14:27
Well, who knows? We'll have to click on the 16 Perfect movies. It could be a slasher Yeah. They're watching. They're very disturbed. They

Clancy Denton  14:33
do have Yeah, things embedded within but I did like we just, you know, we we do this all the time. I mean, and we don't necessarily make it a date, but we just enjoy, you know, we just watched quiz lady, which was really good. If you have Amazon Prime. It was just very entertaining. Good movie, you know, and there's several new Christmas movies that are out there. And now's the time. You know, we have to start watching our Christmas movies we

Rick Denton  14:58
talked about I think we're gonna go for free,

Clancy Denton  15:01
because we won't be able to fit them all in one because

Rick Denton  15:06
I'm not gonna start quoting it. Okay, so

Clancy Denton  15:08
next Oh, just keep doing that. So

Rick Denton  15:10
take it. I'll do it while you're clicking that take a word that say tour and your city or hometown

Clancy Denton  15:17
Yeah. Which Okay. City or your or your hometown.

Rick Denton  15:22
And so that's we travel this is a normal part of our world

Clancy Denton  15:27
now we haven't I mean, we you know, we did do San Antonio this semester. Sort of kind of living semesters. But but we yeah, we like to travel I mean, and that's the thing is that every other traveling we've done this few months has been to see the kids which is good and we love you know, we're learning a new city in Tucson and we

Rick Denton  15:54
do enough time away from them that I don't feel like it's exclusive reason to go there. But it's not the only thing that we do, which is good. Now, when you were reading this to me this morning, there's a particular part of touring a new city that we are not going to do and that is explore your city on a lime scooter. Oh

Clancy Denton  16:09
yeah. I love that. They put that Yes. For all you empty nesters who are probably you know 50 Plus, get on a lime scooter. Okay, so Tinder last

Rick Denton  16:22
brought to you by the medical. Although that one actually is kind of a younger trimmer. Okay, so maybe they can be on the lime scooter maybe unlike the couple earlier that was crashing into each other on the bike. Okay,

Clancy Denton  16:35
we're young and trim and fit. I don't want to be on a lime scooter. Compared to one I will be the one that ends up with a broken something. All right, next go bowling. So

Rick Denton  16:47
I'm sorry, I just saw something we don't need to talk about bowling much because we do enjoy it and I enjoy it. But scroll down or up a little bit. I don't know that I want to know what the sexy twist on this classic bedroom

Clancy Denton  17:08
bowling I don't know.

Rick Denton  17:09
Alright, stay for a future episode describing bedroom bowling. So

Clancy Denton  17:14
we do but you know we talked about that. I said I enjoy bowling. It's fun. We have so much fun when we go but I don't like to me that's not I like to go with other people to not just the two of us. Let's go bowling. I mean, it's not like we're in a league or something. But, you know, I just I like it's fun with the kids. It's fun. It would be fun with other couples You know, it's just

Rick Denton  17:38
it's bowling is certainly fun socially. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  17:42
Okay, okay. Attend a cooking class or baking class together. Well, ironically, our other empty nester friends Aaron and JP just texted us yesterday and asked if we wanted to do a cooking class. So So I think we can consider this a yes. Well, yeah, we're, we're on board with that we, I, I've done several over the years of our marriage, and

Rick Denton  18:05
one of our favorite travel experiences was a cooking class. That was what we do with poo over in Thailand. So that kind of fun and it's stories and memories along with the food that you learn but the stories and memories

Clancy Denton  18:15
and that's, you know, I enjoy it. It will be fun. I don't cook the way that I you know, those cooking classes like you think

Rick Denton  18:25
that's what it's about anymore? I don't know. It's just No, I meant just it's for us.

Clancy Denton  18:31
It's just, just entertainment. Now I'm not going to learn any new recipes or

Rick Denton  18:35
a dim sum cooking class. Yeah. Okay. Well, I'd have no intention of ever doing dim sum at home. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  18:42
All right. Next. Go on a grocery store date. Yes. Okay, so, yeah, I didn't see that. Oh, yes. Okay, look, but she Hello. Wait, she has her paper list. And I still have my paper list. I think that's what unless she's got it on her tablet. Which then yeah,

Rick Denton  19:00
maybe he's carrying a bag. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  19:04
Maybe they don't live here. Maybe that's how you do it somewhere else? I don't know.

Rick Denton  19:09
There's no way we're doing it. No, grocery store date. I mean, Tegan and me. Oh, yeah, our Thanksgiving shopping well,

Clancy Denton  19:14
and like I said, when I read this one, I'd be in there for double the time and ended up with double the crap in the cart. So now we need

Rick Denton  19:24
it and super toasted.

Clancy Denton  19:27
Ya know, who wants cookies? Yeah. And it's always oh, let's get this in. No. So all right. Yeah, yeah. Oh, well, okay. Because this one, this one yeah. You're supposed to one of you would be in charge of an appetizer and one the main dish so they you pick stuff and cook. Okay. I'm already going to the cooking class. I don't need to do that. This one's out. Yeah, not doing that. Okay, take a pottery or painting class together. This one is a big no for me just because I was in the era of the painting. With a Twist and so I have so many of those underneath the bed somewhere of think me so sad trees bad. I mean I've thrown out a bunch but there was a Christmas one that I do like that I haven't pulled out but I mean even you know, Tegan went to a birthday party once and like she drew a cheerleader and her cheerleader It looks like she has like a big club foot because it's like bigger than the rest of the body. I mean Yeah. So now this well this

Rick Denton  20:33
I don't know it would be connection time but we all remember coast you know pottery classes Yes. And I'm sure Yeah, combine pottery bedroom bowling and who knows what's going on? And again,

Clancy Denton  20:48
it's another thing I've I want to bring another thing into this house. Okay, so pass Yeah, look at that. Look can earn honoree like shop for pot? It's a no but I mean, like what is that's her clay. Her clay looks like something else. Okay. Bake cookies together? I don't.

Rick Denton  21:13
Oh, we have reactions. Now. Again.

Clancy Denton  21:17
I would bake cookies together. Maybe add a baking cookie class or something. But I don't I don't know how you bake cookies together.

Rick Denton  21:26
Well, like them their heart

Clancy Denton  21:30
and what's your milk sitting on the counter? That's more I guess they're decorating cookies together. I think

Rick Denton  21:38
I get the sense that there's a little bit of Get out of my kitchen. We can do cookies together somewhere else. Okay,

Clancy Denton  21:44
but like when I make chocolate chip cookies, I don't really know how you're gonna do that with me.

Rick Denton  21:49
Because Get out of my kitchen. So maybe decorating

Clancy Denton  21:53
Okay. Volunteer at a shelter or do community service when we and we are actually doing that this coming up. When this Thursday

Rick Denton  22:02
it'll be the two days later. Where? Yeah, I'd like to do more of this. And I think a lot of folks will go Oh yes, I want to serve more. I think as you're an empty nester, this is something that you can do not just a date but it's a way we've we have more time so we should be able to do

Clancy Denton  22:18
this. One of the problems is though the places that you want they fill up so fast now you know now that we are empty nesters we can again though we're not retired, but we're empty nesters. But we could do some weeknight stuff. But yes, we're so we're doing this one this weekend. So plan a staycation this way we've done these,

Rick Denton  22:41
I find this a little weird in the empty nest world. Because to me, part of the reason why you staycation? Well, there's 1000 reasons why it can be cost budget and stuff. But the way we did it was let's just get a night away from the kids. Well,

Clancy Denton  22:54
I don't know Do you want to be out of your house or like if we wanted to go to Fort Worth, you know, if you're a little bit vacation, I mean, there's restaurants that we like to eat a Dallas that sometimes you don't want to drive back home.

Rick Denton  23:09
Or if we went to the symphony late or something like that. You could, you

Clancy Denton  23:12
could It's just we've done it here. You know, we've lived here now for you know, so many years, we've done it here so many times that to us,

Rick Denton  23:21
unless the hotel had a particularly neat element and there's some new like there's a new one that opened up in Fort Worth. It has a quirky boutique next to it that I might consider going and staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in Dallas doesn't hold this but it stayed the Hilton Garden Inn in Tucson. Yeah, works really well.

Clancy Denton  23:37
All right, next up, attend a live theatre show. We enjoy. We we enjoy this, we like doing this check. So um, yeah, we just need to see what's playing. Because what

Rick Denton  23:49
I don't want to do though, what's frustrating, and they do it by design, the Broadway series or anything like that, is well three of the shows you want to see. And four you don't but if you want to get tickets, you got to buy the series. I'd like to get exposed to more local theater to I just don't know how we even plug into that. Wow,

Clancy Denton  24:07
it's everywhere. I mean, there's there's, I mean, some of the kids that Tanner and Tegan, I mean, they do local theater all I mean, you know, so

Rick Denton  24:19
I'd like to see some of that. It's not just the big production but the more intimate three, four actors on stage, telling a story. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  24:29
And turned an outdoor concert. Or if there aren't any concerts. Consider looking at the local amphitheater. See what they have on the calendar. Yeah, I mean, we we like concerts. We like outdoor concerts. I one of my favorites was the erasure one over at the place in Grand Prairie herbing arraign tweeted me. Oh, yeah. Oh, that that one is one of my favorite ones. What's did the problem is here you have to you get Three we see

Rick Denton  25:01
an Outdoor Show and a comment on the fact that it was outdoors for the rows behind us. But we weren't sure we

Clancy Denton  25:09
are covered. Yeah. And did it rain? No, I know. Yeah. But yeah,

Rick Denton  25:13
the empty nesters. It's more just about being older. Yeah. I'm not really interested in wearing a poncho and running around. So I want to be in a seat and be comfortable in but that was a great show. Yeah,

Clancy Denton  25:24
we like live museums like part of our UFC. Big

Rick Denton  25:29
part of it is because it's shows go on later now that it's does not remain that way. A lot of our dating was going to concerts, and so this is a good

Clancy Denton  25:37
way to run. Yeah. And again, yeah, that I I can't go to something that starts at 10 o'clock at night. So and that's sometimes the opening is okay. 19 go to a comedy club or improv night we enjoy. Yeah, I mean, we even pop on Netflix comics all the time. Watch shows. So we like doing this and we will do more of this. So we

Rick Denton  25:59
tried to do it or not try

Clancy Denton  26:02
to do something else. Okay. 20 go to a local antique show or a flea market. Well

Rick Denton  26:06
tell that's it. Okay, show's over. What they

Clancy Denton  26:13
do there are a couples that enjoy that my parents, you know, yes, my mom still goes to Can my dad doesn't go with her anymore, but they you know, and if

Rick Denton  26:25
I different strokes for different folks, no problem there

Clancy Denton  26:28
now. Me? No, no. And I've done canon a couple of times. And it just that stuff doesn't really appeal to me. So look, what about a piece of furniture you're looking at? Especially because yeah, I don't. I'm not into antiques. My mom is huge. And antiques you know, that just was never on my scene. So. Okay. Host a murder mystery dinner with friends? No. Oh,

Rick Denton  26:49
yeah. Well, wait, hang on the word host. I'd be more than happy to have a murder mystery happening in front of me while I tend to bar and watch everybody else doing Yes. But don't be a part of it. No. Killer. 80s prom. Yeah,

Clancy Denton  27:02
I don't even like, like, there was a party we were supposed to go to that was one of these. These just don't appeal to me. We did it as a court.

Rick Denton  27:11
Were you part of I can't remember. Did you join me in the corporate thing that I had to do? I don't know. I don't remember what it was so bad. Because it just was. Yeah, it was just that. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  27:20
I like an escape room. I like when we do those. Yes. Again, though. You can't a two person you need to get a career though. That would be a fun emptiness thing to do as a group, which kind of goes along that same? Okay, go boating or canoeing? Yeah, I mean, I would do this. I just don't know where all you would do it. You'd

Rick Denton  27:40
have to be in a place that's different than we are. And I mean, we talked about a story of canoeing when we were talking about camping. Hopefully you won't find snakes on the next time. We like being on the water. And I could see a scenario where we are boating. You know, one of the things if you don't have a boat, it can be a little pricey to do it as a couple canoeing though. Yeah, kayaking, paddleboarding, those kinds of things? Yeah, that'd be a fun date.

Clancy Denton  28:09
get dinner from a local food truck. I don't know why.

Rick Denton  28:11
Why is that a big deal?

Clancy Denton  28:13
I don't know. Maybe this article was written before food trucks were like on every corner. I mean, because now, now we have, you know, places that are built for junk food trucks. So what we do we like when we get food from future like, when, you know, again, though, we're with the kids. But when we went down to Clyde Warren when it first opened and they had the food trucks, we're like, oh, this is neat. You know? So, again, I'm not going to seek out this. But

Rick Denton  28:40
yeah, I wouldn't say to you, we're going to have dinner and specifically target a food truck. Yeah, we target an area that happened to have right drugs. I don't see this is the date. It's just a way that you're being fueled during the day.

Clancy Denton  28:53
Okay. 24 attend a local sporting event. Grant Been there. Done. That sounds awesome. We've done we. Yeah, I like sports. I do. Yeah, but check

Rick Denton  29:06
it little sport it out. They're done. I bet you know what, though. I bet if I had Final Four tickets, and the kids weren't avail or something like that. That was a lot of fun.

Clancy Denton  29:14
I enjoy. I enjoy sports. And I enjoy now. The one they picked is not my favorite. But it was fun to still see them when on the TV. So but I enjoy going to sporting events. I just

Rick Denton  29:29
you're not going to be the one that says when I say hey, let's go do a date. It's Friday night. Let's go see an FC Dallas match. Yeah, no, no, it needs to be an event rather than

Clancy Denton  29:39
or my kid needs to be playing in it. Okay, 25 play games together. Okay. I guess the bowling Yeah. Category.

Rick Denton  29:51
I think they had a different thing.

Clancy Denton  29:53
Now we like games. We've always played cards. And this is

Rick Denton  29:57
one though that we were talking about. We should Do more. We love TV and we talked about a couple episodes ago TV is your love language. I'd like to introduce more of this where it's the TV and there's the game.

Clancy Denton  30:10
Yeah, it's just finding two person games is not you know, I mean we play Jen and that kind of stuff and it's fun but only around that you can actually play so

Rick Denton  30:21
maybe we can check out their top best to play your card games and board games. Yes, we

Clancy Denton  30:25
can. So and I don't play chess and y'all you know you Tikkun Tainan play chess. That's another good long right two person game, but I don't play that. Okay. Oh, yeah, here. Oh, there's the card people. I love their faces. Okay, go swimming. We do that we'll pull

Rick Denton  30:47
those kind of feeling about that. Yeah. We will we go swimming. And we do enjoy them. And I get that that one. That one feels very dainty if you don't have access to that, and I understand that. It just so happens that we have very comfortable access to that.

Clancy Denton  31:02
27 go to a drive in movie. I know we have one around here somewhere. But again, I that I've done it a couple of times. It was fun when I was a kid and we would do it but I don't I don't really care.

Rick Denton  31:17
I've never done one. And so I think I would enjoy checking the box once but I really don't. Like it doesn't hold any actual appeal to me. I mean, other than the cliche steaming up the windows kind of thing and a drive and

Clancy Denton  31:30
and now I don't I don't even know how they are now because they can't make them like they used to so I don't know that one. But it could be neat. Yeah. Enjoy an ice cream shop date together. Okay, we just go get ice cream.

Rick Denton  31:46
This I guess maybe we could do make it a date to go to the monument. PGA ice cream shop. But yeah, if ice cream. Let's just see.

Clancy Denton  31:53
If they offer samples. Try as many as you can. Okay, annoy the worker.

Rick Denton  32:00
I think the last shop that it was when tan and I were out in North Carolina. I think they had a look, you get to sample. Yeah, you want to try and get out of our hair.

Clancy Denton  32:08
Yeah. So try it. And we do every time we're in Austin, we hit Amy's and that's my favorite. Okay. Go shopping for a date night? What?

Rick Denton  32:23
Um, no, well,

Clancy Denton  32:24
here's the problem with this one. Well, and they wanted you to like, buy something for the other person. So, okay, we're past that. Like, like, oh,

Rick Denton  32:33
each of you has a budget and then you

Clancy Denton  32:37
know, but that's not even if you have a spouse that enjoys shopping, then that would work. You hate shopping. I can't. I don't know the last time you bought a piece of clothing for yourself. So you don't like it? I I like shot. I used to like shopping a lot more than I do now. But I you know, I can go in and go, boom, boom, boom, go, you know, so, yeah, that's doesn't

Rick Denton  33:06
you know what I will let me my first reaction was met. I actually remember a couple times. And this might be kind of fun to redo where it's an afternoon. So we go to shopping plays, like get out of our area and head down to North Park or go to those other regions and make it kind of an afternoon where we're doing stuff we're eating. We're going into stores together like that has been fun in the past. I just hate doing it solo, because I don't I just don't like it.

Clancy Denton  33:33
Yeah, but again, I know the stores that I like to go to. So

Rick Denton  33:39
yeah, it's more of an efficiency just it's a transit. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  33:42
Yeah, I just, I enjoy like, when Tanner and I go we have a good time because he likes to shop. You know, you would be in a place and be like, I don't know. And so yeah.

Rick Denton  33:55
Well don't see. empty nesters. You definitely know me. All

Clancy Denton  34:01
right. Last one host a potluck dinner party with friends. We do this and you do enjoy it. Can

Rick Denton  34:08
we change the phrasing of this? text your friends a couple hours before and say hey, we're gonna do happy hour at her house. Bring some stuff over let's let's end up spending hours together. That's our version to pot. Yeah, we've had a great time doing that.

Clancy Denton  34:21
Yeah. And then yeah, we ended up staying too long and then making breakfast tacos at 1030 at night because no one can drive to cook anything to

Rick Denton  34:30
eat is a bit of an overstatement. But yeah, it was it was the right choice. We were pulling the skillet out and fried bacon a

Clancy Denton  34:37
typical level. Yeah. So yeah.

Rick Denton  34:41
All right. Well, that was kind of fun to go. Yeah. 30 Yeah,

Clancy Denton  34:44
I thought it was good about it. Yeah, some we're not, you know, not good at all. And some we've already done and some we plan on doing in the future. I like

Rick Denton  34:55
the reminder of doing some things that I think we loved And it's a reminder to go and that's probably a key part of empty nesting is, don't forget the things that you used to really enjoy and start doing them.

Clancy Denton  35:06
Yeah. Well, and I also think, you know, we did a good job, like at the beginning of, okay, let's go do this this weekend, let's go do this, then we got busy going back and forth to Arizona and do and you know, other life stuff. And so I want to you know, this, this was kind of our semester check in, if you will. So, next, you know, how do we do? Fine. I think we did good. Yeah.

Rick Denton  35:35
We good grades.

Clancy Denton  35:37
I think we navigated the first months of being empty nest pretty well. So now, you know, we did get to see our kids a lot. But and that, you know, won't change with her. I don't know how much that will change with him. But But ya know, I think we did well, so. But speaking of the child, this was the text. Talking about semesters. Yeah. Yeah. So she had just finished her Spanish conversation final. And she texted me and said, Well, that was honestly my last stressful thing. I'm in the homestretch now. So she's just, it's awesome. She's had a really good academic, social, outside of a certain aspect of it. She's had a really good semester. So it's starting off strong,

Rick Denton  36:26
and she's found a way to handle that one challenge there. And so she's love how she's socially adjusted, academically adjusted, and just living life adjusted. So to see that homestretch I know that you haven't seen him on camera but the little dude that our feet right now, she's very ready to,

Clancy Denton  36:42
and she's Yeah, she's ready to, to be home and be in her space for a little bit. So

Rick Denton  36:49
all right, here we go. Everybody now you know what to go do and not doing today. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  36:53
And tell us. If you have a good date idea that you thought was really fun to do? Let us know

Rick Denton  37:00
and we'll put it on the show. We'll definitely give you credit for it and shout you out on it. And we'll use it ourselves too if we'd like it.

Clancy Denton  37:07
Alright, right. It's been another episode of the loud quiet, living the empty nest
