Welcome to the loud quiet. Ooh, empty nester. Okay. What does that mean?

Rick Denton  0:06
I think that actually probably is the theme of the nest. What are we doing? Let's do this. Let's do this thing. Is this Recording. Yes Okay,

Clancy Denton  0:15
great. Sans, children just us. we need a tissue box up here. Follow along on our journey and maybe you know, we can learn from others clue how to be empty nesters if this is the loud, quiet, living the empty nest

Hey guys, welcome back episode 35 of the loud quiet. Thanks again for those who are continuing to listen or watch. We just appreciate it. Appreciate the feedback, mostly from my parents. But we're like the kids who as you know, parents, you think they're the greatest. But we do. Thank you for listening. Thank you for watching, thank you for liking on our Facebook page just, again, if there's a topic that y'all would like us to, you know, talk about or quarters over? Talk about or if you would like to be a guest on to talk about something, please let us know. And we will be happy to accommodate that. So

Rick Denton  1:22
absolutely, because we've done 35 We plan to do 35 more and 35 and 35. And so, yeah, it's been enjoyable. And because we talked about we're doing this for us to have a conversation and kind of just enjoy being connected. It's just been fun to have others along the ride as well. And we'll learn from y'all as we do that. Speaking of rides, that's what we wanted to talk about today a little bit, we took a trip. And I mean, it's you know, it feels like a trip because it's a 30 miles. But it's we went down into Dallas yesterday for a reason around Tanner in law school and those sorts of things. But those were some of our old stomping grounds. And it got us to thinking about remember this house, remember that house. And so here we are almost living in this house that we're in now longer than I lived in my childhood home, I haven't quite figured out the math on that. It's fun to think about those memories as we've gotten to where we are, but we're not going to start there. Because something even more important happened to us. And a lot of folks that are local listeners to hear. Since the last time we recorded we had the total eclipse, and it was mind blowing. There are I fail at words.

Clancy Denton  2:32
Yeah. And, you know, I was one of those people that I knew this was a big deal. But okay, you know, I wasn't gonna totally rearrange my entire schedule around me. But then I blocked Yes, but then I, you know, came home anyways. And I went to the grocery store on Sunday instead of my usual Monday. And it was it was really, really just, it was really neat for us, because we were in the totality, totality. So we put a picture, I took pictures of Rick, you know, before, and then as it was happening, and is that and then when it was the dark when our you know, our lights that come on, but you can even see in the third picture that there it's even darker, and I didn't put the one of that was like really dark. So

Rick Denton  3:19
that was one thing that this is why I'm glad we lived it versus photos. Because even when I look at the photos, it doesn't tell you how dark it was No, it wasn't like being in a cave where you couldn't see your hand. It was night though. There were stars, there were planets visible at 1:40pm.

Clancy Denton  3:39
And what was interesting is that, you know, just in downtown Dallas, it even got darker than it did at our house. Because as it went further, whatever direction it wasn't as completely covered. So that was it was it was interesting. It was a neat experience. And

Rick Denton  4:01
the silence was something else. We're talking about the visuals, the audio for this. Crickets would start chirping the birds stopped doing what they were doing. There was just a surreal stillness that happened.

Clancy Denton  4:15
And even at the places that had huge groups, they said the same thing. Everybody just got quiet. And you know, yeah, it was

Rick Denton  4:24
we don't have bats, but where people had bats bats came out. And so that made me wonder when did those bats go back in? Are they out? It's four minutes, like, Oh, crap,

Clancy Denton  4:33
well, and those glasses were dark, because I put them on to walk outside like, oh my gosh, I can't see how to take these off. So you knew they were they weren't. But

Rick Denton  4:44
when I bought them though, which I bought them a few months ago. I was worried when I got to like, is this really real? Because I couldn't see a thing. And thankfully it was Yeah. But yeah, you're right. I was worried about falling in the pool.

Clancy Denton  4:57
Yeah, yes, because we kept backing up and looking I know The Sky you're worried about falling behind me went and sat in the chairs. But, you know, it really did it worked out because we did not think we're gonna be able to see anything because it was supposed to be super cloudy and maybe even rain. But it was like during that time totally worked. And then the rain came later that day. So yeah.

Rick Denton  5:20
Because it was it was like the apocalypse, we have a total eclipse, which is, you know, before our understanding of it was something that really scared the crap out of humans, like the world is ending, then we that later that day, we had hail. And then we had massive winds overnight. So it really was the end of the earth 24 hour period.

Clancy Denton  5:41
So yeah, so that was a neat, that was a neat experience that we got to experience and are now home. But now we can go back and talk about and we said, Well, why don't we just do a path down all of our homes. And, you know, for a lot of people. I mean, this is our fourth house. A lot of people our age, have either lived in the same one the whole time, or, you know, maybe a couple of you change cities. But, you know, yeah, we had, you know, four houses before our kids were, you know, Tanner was five when we moved into this one. And so we really

Rick Denton  6:16
didn't set the hardcore routes where we were not going to move unless something forced that we were flexible. Before, which I think is why there was this count. We were not flexible when we moved into this house.

Clancy Denton  6:29
And you know, I when I think about my growing up, we moved quite a few times. And so I could tell around year two or three and every house we were in I started getting that itch of time to move. It's time to move. But this one has, you know, I'm

Rick Denton  6:49
glad that it was a home it's rather than like a marriage you know, The Seven Year Itch like I just want to change houses not husband so that's good. I'm glad that worked out for us that

Clancy Denton  6:58
but yes, our so our first home that we bought was in Dallas, if you are from the Dallas area, this is on the

Rick Denton  7:09
streets which are in streets Lakewood, right in between the two. So

Clancy Denton  7:12
we loved this location. The house was good. The house had some issues.

Rick Denton  7:21
Oh my gosh, I want to I want to experience this audio only because the way you said that is brilliant. It was an older house.

Clancy Denton  7:28
It was a 1940

Rick Denton  7:30
I just had a ton of updates. What it had had was a lot of add ons and I mean add on sounds really fancy. I don't like bolt on Yeah. The way you connected the house to what was definitely a covered garage at one point I guarantee they built a garage. And then they're like, Wow, let's connect it with this weird little skinny hallway that was

Clancy Denton  7:53
and the people that bought it after us knocked that garage down. Yeah, and the and that Bri and that walkway where the laundry room was but

Rick Denton  8:02
it was and this is what makes me a little sad. Not sad, but wondering about the generation after us how hard it is to get into a startup. This is a starter home we won at one I can't remember if it

Clancy Denton  8:14
was like 108 No, I don't think it was no but

Rick Denton  8:17
it was it was definitely a one as a first digit. Yeah, good luck finding a tattoo in the street because

Clancy Denton  8:22
I looked at it yesterday and it's six something now and I was like, Oh my gosh, this

Rick Denton  8:27
is a home though that I don't know that there was insulation and it was incredibly cold. It was pure and beam so there was a lot of Yes. And and it

Clancy Denton  8:35
was hardwood floors. It was the interior was beautiful. It just had some layout issues. And but but the interior was awesome. We

Rick Denton  8:49
this is not our landscaping just to be clear. This was a picture we pulled off

Clancy Denton  8:53
and because yeah, we couldn't find her well we can get into upgrade isn't

Rick Denton  8:57
what we had. And remember all the lilies that I had to yank out somebody

Clancy Denton  9:01
drove by and said, Oh, we yanked out not. I

Rick Denton  9:05
guess I was thinking of the day where you went there and there was a woman that came up and she's like, oh, yeah, take them all. She

Clancy Denton  9:10
wanted all the bulbs. They weren't they were tulips, tulips not to have to. That's right. And all the vine, remember the vines that were all growing on this site. This

Rick Denton  9:20
is also a house that we were learning how to be homeowners and I think that's like as I think back to now is an empty nester yesterday cleaning out a gutter, right. I know how to operate a home for the most part now. We didn't have a clue what to do here. Squirrels got in her attic. I don't know what to do with that. It took us months to actually discover that there was a cracked window in that second bedroom and then having to figure out how to replace it.

Clancy Denton  9:45
Well, I think because you know, we actually purchased this house before we got married not long before but a few months before we got married. Now a lot of people who get married, don't go into a home they go into an apartment or go into you know, we were very fortunate We could go into a house and a house down on the street and a place that we loved. And, you know, we, I thought about this day, we've gotten a pet or a kid, every house that we've been. Okay, so what's gonna happen next? So so this was Kibo our dog. That I think I think we've told that story on here where, you know, I was on a trip, and I was coming back and I get this text. Get home quick. There's a dog across the street. And there's our neighbors across the street, how to farm and they had found this litter of puppies and brought them back. So yeah, like, right. I mean, this was probably a month after we had moved in. Here. Here's a tip new best and worst mistake we made Don't.

Rick Denton  10:51
Don't Don't do this new married. I mean, yeah, if you look at this couch, you can see that it's not chewed to bits. Well, it got ripped to shreds later on.

Clancy Denton  11:00
Just on that one bottom part. Yeah, he but he was sweet. And he was a good dog. And we he moved with us to Houston, but he didn't live much after that. But yeah, so here he is on his little blanket with my cheeses. Yeah. And then this was our first Christmas card picture. And he were holding Kibo buyer. But yeah, I mean, you know, this. The part the thing about this house is Yes. 1940s. But that room was solid. I mean, it was because that was the main part of the house. The other stuff got added on. But yeah, that room.

Rick Denton  11:42
It's a great point, because that's exactly it. The little solar room that they added onto so flimsy, like you even felt flimsy walking around in the hallway I'm describing. I don't know if you remember, it's kind of the Six Flags house.

Clancy Denton  11:53
Yeah. Yeah, it was tilted the one that connected to the driveway. Yeah, but

Rick Denton  11:58
the solid part of the house was absolutely so. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  12:00
And then again, and all of our houses oops, went backwards. Amazing backyard. I mean, this is an amazing picture of us. With our I didn't

Rick Denton  12:13
realize this was

Clancy Denton  12:14
in our inflatable pool. We were having a we had a party to having to inflate. So but the backyard was awesome. It was big green trees. It was just Yeah, it was a great backyard. We hosted barbecues over there with our friend group at the time. And yeah, so

Rick Denton  12:35
there's the date on there. It's That's July 16 2000. We've been married for all of about let's see, that's not even two not even tomorrow. Okay. hairs, listeners, viewers, I'm gonna do a little moment. This is so gosh, we're so young. I have a little

Clancy Denton  12:54
post marriage wait on me. Anyways, if you'd like to see that lovely picture, you can tune into next. So from there and this house, we were only in for a year

Rick Denton  13:09
because I got a job offer down in Houston. We have ultimate flexibility. It was during an era where you kind of try Oh,

Clancy Denton  13:15
no, we skipped this one. Because we were back down there last night or yesterday. So we stopped off at Arizona which if you are Dallas people great outdoor bar, restaurant, really restaurants and

Rick Denton  13:28
yeah, just a great, great met porch with old trees. It reminded me and they've got signs that kind of help you feel that way that it's got a central Texas vibe to with the trees and the porch. This was we hadn't been it was we were talking about that though. Think about this, this restaurants have been around for us. It was an established restaurant 30 years ago when we're going to it. So it's kind of neat. To go back to a world that doesn't feel like your same life. Our young married life doesn't feel like our life. Just it seems like another world another time.

Clancy Denton  14:00
And you know, now we can do we're kind of getting back into that, you know, because we were down at SMU to get a couple of things for Tanner. And as we were driving. You know, it was fun seeing Oh, there's barley house, which Tanner's actually mentioned, because he's been there and then there's Milo Butterfingers right across the street and then turn the corner. Here's ozone, you know, the Yeah, this was where we lived and did did

Rick Denton  14:27
our 20 yet yeah. And so now we're going back in our 50s Yeah, it's mind blowing. Do that. Too much. We're gonna have to scold me on mind blowing.

Clancy Denton  14:35
So then we went to Houston? Yes, I this

Rick Denton  14:41
was I lived in an apartment I forgot living in an apartment by myself because I had to move from my job before you came down. There you are you wrapped up selling Dallas while we tried to find a home and Larry Mercer so just find that so

Clancy Denton  14:55
yeah, that I totally remember. So our first anniversary went to Hawaii. And we took the red eye back. I got off the plane, and you got on another plane to go home to Houston. I went home, I went home and started packing our house in Dallas, because so there's

Rick Denton  15:14
a pro tip deal. You don't want to pack just say that you have to start your job right away. Leave the backing behind.

Clancy Denton  15:21
And actually, I think was I don't know, this was the one where they came in packed everything and unpacked everything it was yeah, it was but yeah, so yeah, we did. And I lived with you in the corporate housing for a little while until, you know, that's actually where we got pregnant with Tanner. But then fast. Sorry, buddy. Yeah, fine. But um, so yeah, so this

Rick Denton  15:45
is high meadow. So it's a neighborhood just west of the Galleria in Houston. ranch style house. I love we one story. Yeah. So nice. And I

Clancy Denton  15:53
just I loved the front of it. The, you know, again, it had its flaws on the inside. And now that I've, you know, I looked, I looked at each one of them now that I've gone back and see what the people did after us or whichever. And they have really, they've made it really, they've done some things that would have if we would have stayed there we probably would have been duly done to say so we this is the house that yes, we brought Tanner home to so this was the kid for this house. And again, this house. Amazing backyard. This doesn't even do it justice. Yeah, cuz it just went on. And we had to put that fence up on the side because of the dog.

Rick Denton  16:39
Again, more learning as a homeowner. And this is before YouTube. So trying to figure out how to build a fence. In the era of before YouTube. It's a lot of conversation with Home Depot, people really. And I don't even know how people own homes. I guess we did before, where you had videos to teach how to do stuff. But this yard was great. It

Clancy Denton  16:59
was great. And we had a little swing that we tied off of that humongous tree and you know we were

Rick Denton  17:06
we had his first birthday party. And so right there in that little nook there by the window was where the margarita machine because the first birthday party is simply not for the cat. It's for the parents. Yeah, we had a blast. Yeah,

Clancy Denton  17:17
we had a lot of fun in this backyard. And like I said, we had great neighbors,

Rick Denton  17:25
and homebuying tip. Make sure you find one that has a sprinkler system because this is before. There was no sprinkler system here. So I'm dragging hoses all over this house and the Martel house. And I am confident. I don't remember kales hat. Well, we're gonna go but either way. Yeah, with all this yard. And I was still doing the mowing myself then. So well. It's great to have and yeesh This

Clancy Denton  17:48
is also the house that we closed on, right before the flood. Remember, and I remember because I must have been on a trip or in Dallas. And I remember you're like I went over and drove by the house. It's fine, you know, but yeah, that was the horrible floods in Houston. Just the round one because they've had

Rick Denton  18:11
our neighborhood our neighborhood flooded, but this home didn't. So so yeah. Redeemer we had it was a self storage unit that was behind us. Yeah. Because the idea we got to discount the home was lower price because Oh, you're behind commercial. Best. Oh, it was awesome. quietest neighbor ever is a self storage. Yes. And

Clancy Denton  18:29
our back fence was you we Yeah, never you never been you didn't even know it was back now. And there's no alleys in either one of those neighborhoods. So you know, that was nice too. So So yeah, so

Rick Denton  18:43
that was we all were there for three years right? Two Three. Yeah.

Clancy Denton  18:47
Because we had Tanner there and then we got Iowa week I got pregnant with Tegan in this house but then we moved when I was seven months pregnant. So So yeah, so we moved to Flower Mound suburb

Rick Denton  19:06
that is north of the DFW airport if you live here you know it but if you don't it's just a little north of DFW airport. It's in the air it's

Clancy Denton  19:13
it was a good location for you because you are traveling then and and watch

Rick Denton  19:18
the mutual who I worked for at the time which we made the transition from Houston up for Yes. Was there in Irving? Yeah. Like we talked about there's memories in this home. I never really loved this home. I love the memories that were there. But this home I honestly from a home perspective, the only thing that I really loved about it and different views here was we I would love laying and looking out the window of our back window and watching the planes landing and taking off. It was sort of hypnotic. Yeah,

Clancy Denton  19:50
I mean, I again struggle for me this one was we were kind of under the gun to By to figure out. I mean, we had to move quickly. We had I don't think we had enough. And we looked at a bunch of homes but

Rick Denton  20:08
and we looked at this one in the middle of a snow Oh, yeah, we made the decision to buy this home when it was covered in snow. Yeah,

Clancy Denton  20:16
we were we were pigeon holed to kind of one area. So and this was one flower Mountain was just new, it wasn't you know, and I

Rick Denton  20:26
actually really liked the neighborhood and there were some other neighbors maybe we would have wanted more, I had no problem with the neighborhood itself. Just there were things about this home that I didn't like, the

Clancy Denton  20:34
layout was a little different. But I but I did love that we backed up to there was a street behind us, but nothing was built on it. And there was a huge farm with cows and, and horse horses. And so the kid like Tanner, we'd walk over there just right outside. And again, another amazing this backyard was awesome. You know, had his I know y'all put that together but had his you know, play scape number one. And then there was still a whole area. I mean, it was, again another and I think that's one thing that's important to me and you is to have a good nice backyard area that, you know, you can actually live and do things in. I found myself yesterday when I was going through looking at the pictures getting emotional, because I was like when I see the stove, you know, an all I can picture is that video that she's climbing up the back of my leg and he's over at the kitchen table doing a workbook, which if you know Tanner, that's and all he's saying is Strawberry Strawberry and she's gone wrong. So when I saw that, I was like, just now he's getting ready to graduate college. I mean, it's just somebody's

Rick Denton  22:01
not able to handle this. And I've got see that's the thing is the house is what I was met about the memories I remember bouncing with him singing vertigo by YouTube because that as we were playing that music, and I mean even you and I have had some some comical times. There's another tip for everybody. Watch out for your relationship health when you're doing a fast that did not go well. We had some some fun battles there when we were hungry. But the do remember the like the kids how they would interact through the glass. That's

Clancy Denton  22:39
this picture. Oh, I've got it. Cuz, Tegan, we brought Tegan home to this house, you know, Tanner hadn't quite turned three yet. And so yeah, here we call this the Jill picture because they've got their hands like up against the window Tanner happened to be outside and she, you know, he could go outside and play by he she, you know, not yet. She. So out of the two, which is so crazy. She was way more mischievious than he ever was. At this point. I

Rick Denton  23:13
would have said that she's

Clancy Denton  23:15
gonna be the one that's like, because, you know, I would find her unrolling all the toilet paper I have that picture. So you know, she was in the cabinet Tanner just never messed with any Tanner was happy to just go sit and read his books, and then go play outside. You know, she was way more into Yeah, stuff than he was. But But yeah, that the Yeah, we love this picture. That's one of our, our favorites from

Rick Denton  23:48
and that's and that's I mean, we've got more, obviously one more home to talk about it. I can say what I say about this house, I'm like, I don't really care about the house. But the the moments of life there that are going to never be taken away from that house will always be those memories. There's the good the bad hurt in the jeep plan. Oh, no, that's here. He knows he had it. But he wouldn't drive it. He didn't like it. No, but he would be driven in it. Yeah, bouncing around in the back of my truck. Like there was all sorts of things that we would do at this house. Another

Clancy Denton  24:22
thing that yeah, he hated that jeep, he would not drive it. So when we got over here and she was talking up, she took off and that was like, alright, it's mine. So good times. But yeah, so that that was Flower Mound. And then then we you switched and started working for JC Penney, which was on the other side of the Metroplex made sense

Rick Denton  24:45
to move over to Frisco and I'm so glad we chose Frisco. over some others. Yeah, obviously, everybody's got their own paths. But how this city this was our permanent selection. I think there was a little more pressure we had more time, but this was there was some pressure on Choosing this, I'm so glad it was the way we had the school system and all that sort of stuff. And

Clancy Denton  25:04
in this house, we actually, we did this one. But you know, I mean, through a builder, but you know, we got to make some decisions. And so, you know, again, which we've learned. Now, there would have been things that we would have done differently. But, I mean, we've been in this house 17 years, it's probably like, this week, actually, I was thinking it was April. So you know, 17 years. So Tanner, was just about, you know, it was the summer or right before the summer, before kindergarten, Tegan turned to and this house, so we must have moved in, right before she her birthday. But all you know, through, there were four couples, we all moved in this street all kind of got developed at the same time, we all moved in at the same time, still very close with two of the couples, the other one moved away. But

Rick Denton  25:59
this was just we pulled the grill up front and said breathe.

Clancy Denton  26:02
And that's how we met everyone. And, and the kids we've talked about, they were all stair step, they all played out front constantly. And that that is one advantage. I know everyone hates the alleys, but alleyways not on our neighbors, the alleys, I had to specify driving down the alleys. But this was awesome because they could run across all of the yards without having to think about cars pulling in and out of driveways and that kind of thing. So it does have its disadvantages for allies. But that's one advantage. So see, this house has been our

Rick Denton  26:46
core. I was saying to you that there's we're getting close to the point that I will have lived in this house longer than I lived in the childhood home that we did not move in. Yeah. Because we may have already crossed that threshold. It's just depends on how I counted do I count it when I graduated high school? Do I count when I graduated from college and move to Dallas? Right? We're in that range. And it's weird that it's that's kind of weird for me because you know how I still talk about Austin and that's kind of where my, my permanent heart will always be Austin, but I've lived I will have lived in Frisco longer very very soon. And what does that mean?

Clancy Denton  27:24
And you know, it is it is neat to have been in a place for so long because we've seen first go change and grow and some things are good some things are not but you know, and yes, our kids got to go Kinder through senior year with the same people that stayed the whole time you know, both of them got to know their friends from kindergarten that were still their friends senior year. So

Rick Denton  27:52
this this, Do we have another? No. So we didn't have a very early pictured the snow part of it is just coincidence that that's the picture we had. For those that know our home. Look at the size of those trees that you're looking at right here is actually one of those trees, there's a story with it. That one of the wind storms knocked it all the way out of the ground root balls sticking up in the air. We never thought that tree would make it and we've now had to do its third tree trimming yesterday because they've still gotten so big. I

Clancy Denton  28:23
mean, they're they're above the house now. Yeah, they're, you know, it just

Rick Denton  28:27
this is the home that we put a pool in. This is the home that graduation parties. We've there's been a wedding in this house. Right Chad newm got married in this house. Your parents? Which which anniversary was it that we celebrated the 50th anniversary that we celebrated in

Clancy Denton  28:45
this we have had so many parties get together? I mean, even on Friday night, you know we were getting together with JP and air and I said hey, it's nice outside y'all just you know go to the house, we have set our backyard up now to be a nice area to hang out. Socialize. And so yeah, I said you know what, instead of trying to find somewhere to go just come over here and we hung out outside for hours. It was beautiful. You know it Yeah, it's just that is

Rick Denton  29:18
there's times that I think about that. The the pool that we have out there and the hanging out out there. When I'm in the pool, and I'm in the deep You know, it's a kind of water to your neck, I think to myself, this was grass where I'm standing or floating or whatever is where I camped overnight and

Clancy Denton  29:34
they had a jungle.

Rick Denton  29:36
Yeah, we we actually had a bounce house. Yeah. Back there, Tanner's.

Clancy Denton  29:43
Huge that huge slide that Yeah, and again, we picked this lot because it had a big backyard so and like I said, you know there are things that we love about this house and things that we don't love so much but you But now that we're, you know, this

Rick Denton  30:02
will be if and I'm gonna use the word if but I mean, everybody does leave their house at some point, whether you willingly because you've transitioned to a different choice or through age, you are no longer to be there. This one's going to be interesting to leave, like, from an emotional perspective, from a sentiment perspective, because it's been so long and I'm not. This isn't some teaser drop, oh, a cleansing recommending or anything. It's just, it's going to happen, because that's what happens. You do have to go somewhere special, the two stories. What's that gonna be? I mean, one of our rooms is labeled the grandma room. Yeah. Right. Because at a certain time, a grandma would come there. My mom, your parents being local. So it's, there's a lot that's happened. Yeah,

Clancy Denton  30:46
it'll be and like I said, you know, we, we started with a pet at the first house. This house, we didn't get any children. But we got our child got a pet.

Rick Denton  30:56
That's right. There's still just a cat that lives rent free in our house over

Clancy Denton  31:00
here. I can hear him. But

Rick Denton  31:03
yeah, anytime you want to take. He's writing

Clancy Denton  31:05
it will be. And you know, I think you and I have obviously, especially now that we're in the emptiness phase talked about, you know, what, what's next for us? And I think I did I think I threw you off guard this week, because the wind in North Texas is atrocious. And it has gotten worse. I think the longer we lived here, or I just, we're just less tolerant to it, right? But it was so windy the other day. And you're like, that's it we're moving. And you used to say that all the time and be like, No, we're not. And this time was like, All right. Let's go. And you looked at me, you're like, what? I said, Yeah, I'm fine with it. Now our kids are done. You know, that's what was holding us here for so many years was I wasn't gonna move them. You know, I wanted them to have the experience. You know, I didn't and so, but now we you know, we could i Yeah, we're I think as we again, we're not Yeah, we're not mom and dad, don't freak out. We're not moving this year, especially now that Tanner's coming back here. The fact we're not gonna like hightail it out of here when he's not living here, but we're not going to leave. But

Rick Denton  32:18
that's what you know. So that's what was enjoyable. About so yes, the wind, but even being in the suburbs that well, we have a lot of great things out here. Heck, the PGA we've talked about that. There's really great things out here. It's not the same as a walkable hey, let's just wander over to something. And that's what was neat. I know we've got a text the week but I want to talk about a little bit about Genesis yesterday, because it was an we we were back to being kid less at that we got to do we've spent a lot of time on the show talking about our kids the last few episodes and even this one with the memories of our kids. Well, there will be those ebbs and flows. I think it even said are we masking being empty nesters, by all the traveling we're doing with the kids will know yesterday was actually kind of nice. Yes. The reason we we got to SMU with Tanner didn't get the law school there. No, probably not. But we were there for us. We were wandering around the campus for us, we chose to go to Ozona. For us. It was nice to do that again with you to be just Rick and Clancy. The loving couple, not Rick and Clancy, the couple and the parents

Clancy Denton  33:23
and it was just nice. Like, you know, we had no schedule. We didn't have to be back for anything. It was just nice. And, you know, it did reinforce again, though, that this is why you can't live in Frisco and work or go or for the people that do because on a Saturday in the middle of the day, 53 minutes to get down there because they were a wreck

Rick Denton  33:47
because they kept adding right. Yeah. So

Clancy Denton  33:50
they kept

Rick Denton  33:50
adding like it's some sort of order. That was it was frustrating to be because because we know Dallas, we zigzagged our way around it still took forever. It was nice not to have a schedule though. Like I didn't feel my blood boiling because Oh we gotta get to a theater or we've got to get to dinner is like we're gonna go to the campus. We're gonna wander around there. We're gonna find something to do. That's the part I think I'd like. Oh, I'm good. That's about it. Well, yeah, being an empty nest is there's no schedule. Okay.

Clancy Denton  34:16
So remember when we were leaving Ozona okay. Okay, so we're getting in the car and out. Oh, yeah. Talking about this long outcomes. A mom a dad, a girl in a cheerleading outfit. I won't say which competitive competitive cheer outfit. We recognized it. And two boys that had looked like twins YMCA soccer age. Yeah. So they're walking in. And I mean, the one little boy is throwing a fit. I'm an absolute fit. And they just stop. The mom is like not happy. The dads not happy the dads probably like we've just been at a cheer camp. I want to go in here and have a drink. Yeah, Esther

Rick Denton  35:00
was on. So He probably wanted to have a beer and watch the masters. And just and

Clancy Denton  35:04
the mom probably wanted to just get in and have a drink as well. Let's not be gender. They, that little kid would not stop. So she just turned around. She said, that's it. We're leaving. And they got right back did

Rick Denton  35:17
she say, I'm not having this?

Clancy Denton  35:18
I am not having

Rick Denton  35:23
yanked back around and got back in the car and laughed. And then what was funny is he was still in the fit about going in. But as soon as she turned around it, then he threw the fit about leaving. As we're sitting there going.

Clancy Denton  35:41
So, so yeah, that that just topped it right there. Because that was our I mean, that was our exactly cheer and soccer was our life like,

Rick Denton  35:50
and to watch them have that meltdown, compare and contrast to the freedom that we've just described. I obviously, we would never change what we did with experiencing parenting, but it's kind of delicious to be in this phase of life

Clancy Denton  36:06
to you just want to say it's okay. It'll all work out. Just get get through it.

Rick Denton  36:15
No, I don't want I want to say hey, it's gonna be bad like this. You'll be here eventually. Oh, that was

Clancy Denton  36:23
bad. So I pulled this text from Tanner this week. So I think Tegan was last week. But he, for those of you who don't know Tanner has been taking Japanese for that's the language that he chose in college. So and he's had a couple of different professors that those classes are not real big so you get to know your so he sent us this is such

Rick Denton  36:50
a fun encounter whenever I run into my Japanese professor, former professors on campus, immediately switching into Japanese is a subtle flex to the people I'm walking with laugh laugh. It's happened like four months, four times last month. What of what a, like a flex. Isn't I don't use that word to use his generation's words to just suddenly pop into not just a romantic language like French or Spanish. I don't even know I got that. Right. But French being Japanese,

Clancy Denton  37:17
which is yeah, very hard. But, um, so yeah, so he's, you know, obviously, we're almost wrapping up. He's, you know, he's already submitted his revisions for his thesis, they got approved. He's done with that he had a presentation in another class. He's, I mean, we're down. I mean, three, three weeks from yesterday. We will be there for graduation. So he has probably two weeks of class love. That's yeah, I can't believe we're here. So yeah, then

Rick Denton  37:45
we're gonna need more Ozona visits.

Clancy Denton  37:49
So yeah, there you go.

Rick Denton  37:52
It's fun. We're walking through the houses of course. And let's not forget the Eclipse at the beginning and what that looks like.

Clancy Denton  37:58
It's fun to think about what are next, you know, house and location will be in Hey,

Rick Denton  38:05
maybe you buy something in Park City. We

Clancy Denton  38:06
talked about that a lot. No, I don't want to live in the parks that he's no offense to anyone who lives in the parks today's I just don't want to live down in that area.

Rick Denton  38:18
You know, you don't have to you don't want to get a house and then we'll have like the the the apartment of back where Tanner lives and I'll just

Clancy Denton  38:25
sorry. That's not happen. No, I

Rick Denton  38:28
wouldn't want that. Yeah, yeah. Cool. All right. Well,

Clancy Denton  38:31
thanks guys for joining us down our house memory lane. today. This has been another episode of the loud quiet learning the best
